To me the blogosphere is a like a zoo; lots of discrete areas containing different species the visitor is free to wander between. Zoo residents are caged so each gets its ideal habitat and the public knows which animal they are looking at (and can’t become its unscheduled lunch). The size a zoo can grow to (partly) depends on how much space is available. Surely the blogosphere has enough room for books and literature; just put ‘em in separate cages so people know what they’re looking at – pulp fiction, popular fiction and literature – and the best of luck with the classifying.

Hi Rob, the difference in opinion had to do with the definition of Literature, not simply what is and is not Literature in the body of written work, but more whether there even is or should be an accepted body of Literature, seperate from other writings.

We talked about it a bit, and it seemed like our views might be incompatible.

Erin is still writing other (more successful, because she’s a fine writer) blogs in the b5media catalogue. Hopefully she will read this and can defend herself if this next statement is inaccurate.

I think that Erin hopes that the “Ivory Tower” of literature will be taken down, while I think that it is a lovely place that people who love the written word should visit regularly.

As for the direction of the blog, you can expect reviews in many forms of a variety of subject matter, discussion of important present and emerging works in poetry, novels, short stories, plays and the like, and discussion on the present and emerging theory behind writing and thinking in Literature.

Ok, so enquiring minds (at least mine) want to know: what was the difference of opinion, and where is this blog going now? It seems to have been cut right in half as Erin’s posts appear to be removed.

Best of luck with Literally Blogging Jacob! You better believe I’ll be keeping up on your posts and ideas, as I think you’ve got some interesting insights. Absolutely no hard feelings on this end, you’re a stand-up chap.

I don’t particularly feel great about the parting of ways either, but I think in the end it was the right decision, and I’m very happy that you have this arena to make your own.

Keep it up!

p.s. – We’re much more attractive than those two.
