It Started with Snuffy

Today I am writing from the hallowed halls of the library of Acadia University. I studied at St. Stephen’s University, which is a small Liberal Arts University in a small town in Canada. The library is devoted to Literature, Philosophy, History, and Religious studies, and that’s it. There are only about 10 000 books in the entire library.

Here I sit at my computer, scamming the unsecured wireless, surrounded by millions of books. It’s somewhat humbling.

But I didn’t come to this area for the Library, but rather to visit my father before leaving the Maritime Provinces for the bright lights of Toronto. And last night we had a great chat about education, mine specifically.

I have a sister who is two years my senior. When she was a toddler we didn’t have a television, but when she went to kindergarten we bought one, and I was placed in front of it every morning to watch Sesame Street. When my sister started school she barely knew the alphabet (by no fault of her own) but when I started school I could read Dr. Seuss. We are both fairly intelligent, but she has little love for literature, and I can’t get enough.

From humble beginings, watching Sesame Street, to slightly less humbly writing for a Literature blog. How interesting.
