I thankfully have never seen this happen to someone, but it is something you should be aware of. Apparently laying your head back, the way you do when having your hair washed in a salon sink, can be hazardous to your health. In fact, you might have a stroke. The back flex on your neck when you lay back in a shampoo bowl can cause tears in arteries in the neck. If you have pain when you lay back in the sink, do not suffer in silence (I am guilty of this). Ask your shampooist to put a towel down for padding, that will solve the problem.
Have we no reprieve, must we always suffer for great beauty?? Geesh.
Lindsay Lohan joins Proactiv Skin CareI have mentioned before, I love Proactiv Solution - I am an old school user back from the beautiful Vanessa Williams days - anyway, it's been awhile. Ha ha - But I used it faithfully until my skin grew tired of it sometime in the past year.
Anyhoo, the new news about town is that La Lohan is their new spokesperson and will be appearing in commercial spots for Proactiv very soon. Did she ever have skin problems? Not that I noticed, but regardless, I am sure she will gain them a pile of new customers!
When I read the literature about Dr. Stuart Kaplan's new skin care line, the first thing I thought was - this is made for me, I can't wait to try it! The premise behind this line is that it treats symptoms associated with estrogen loss, and maintains youthful skin for those who are beginning to show signs of aging. That would be me, at frightfully close to 38 years old. Here is a list of the 12 signs of estrogen loss in your skin, according to KaplanMD.com:
1. Accelerated Formation of Fine Lines and Wrinkles (yep)
2. Adult Acne (yep, yep, yep)
3. Flushing/Redness (not so much)
4. Loss of Firmness (getting there quickly)
5. Loss of Elasticity (starting)
6. Thinning, Colorless or Translucent Skin (not so much - yet)
7. Dull, Lackluster Skin (yep)
8. Dry, Dehydrated Skin (yep)
9. Uneven Pigmentation (yep)
10. Facial Hair Growth (*cough* yep)
11. Photosensitivity (I guess round one of skin cancer gave me a definite yes here)
So, Dr. Kaplan has addressed each of these issues with the addition of soy, grapeseed and black cohash in each product, a blend which he has found to mimic the effects of estrogen on the skin (learn more). At this time there are 4 products in his line - a cleanser, toner, day cream (of course with SPF!), and a night cream. Dr. Kaplain claims that you need no other products, that these will cover all of the concerns - but he is coming out with some specialty products soon - a serum, eye cream, masque, and microfoliant (which I assume is an exfoliant product), that will round out the line to really fill all of your skin care needs (I do NEED all of these things…LOL).
You know my biggest issue with my skin is my nemesis - the blackheads. KaplanMD was so kind as to send me samples of the line to review, and I have to say it has done a fabulous job keeping these under control, far more fabulous than anything else I have tried thus far. I gave this product a good test, using it faithfully for about a month, and really it is superb. The scent is very mild and I love the toner in a spray bottle. The only downside for me is the price - the full system will cost you $495, which is probably going to keep it too far out of my budget for long term use.
Please do let me know if you have tried KaplanMD, I sure would love to hear your experiences with it! If you would like to try it for yourself, you can buy it at KaplanMD.com.
Smoky Quartz Drop Necklace
Here is a company that I haven't visited to date and so far I like what I'm seeing. Their pieces all have something just a little unusual and you know how great that is when you just ran out the door in a boring outfit.
Tiny faceted smoky quartz briolettes hang suspended from Sterling silver chain. Chain length adjustable to 17″.
And I'm guilty of this?? Unfortunately yes. You think you are safe to run to the supermarket and no one will notice you, but it never happens. The last person you want to see will always be there! It's almost guaranteed.
Glasses are cool and all - I have a couple of pairs I love, but I just don't feel like I am "with it" until I put in my contacts. And my false eyelashes bat against the lenses anyway - who wants that?? When I get a new pair of cool glasses I will wear them around for awhile and feel grand about them, but in the hot Texas summer there is nothing like a contact lens or two. :) It is time to reorder, and I always get mine through Vision Direct, which is a Drugstore.com property, so I feel great about ordering from them, and they have never done me wrong. I am out of lenses, and am heading to the beach next week, so new contacts are a must, so am ordering them right now:
